Local woman studying in Taiwan murdered

SIBU: A 24-year-old local woman who was studying at a university in Tainan, Taiwan, was reported to have died last Thursday (Oct 29).

According to a Taiwan newspaper the woman has been missing since Oct 28.

Following that, a male suspect was arrested after he admitting to killing her. The suspect also claimed to have strangled her to death and dumped her body elsewhere.

The report also stated that the woman was abducted earlier and the next day the police arrested the suspect known only as Liang.

Sibu district police chief ACP Stanley Jonathan Ringgit when contacted confirmed that the murder did take place as reported.

According to him, the woman’s mother, who is a 45-year-old saleswoman, lodged a report at the central police station last Friday afternoon.

“The mother said she received news about her daughter’s death last Thursday from Evergreen University Taiwan. The daughter, Irene Chung, had been killed and her body was found on Mount Alian in Kaohsiung, Taiwan,” the police chief said.

He added that the mother lodged her report to get assistance from the Malaysian government to monitor the investigation into the case and she intended to go to Taiwan to claim her daughter’s body.

The family living at Jalan Kandis refused to cooperate with the media to be interviewed as they do not want to be disturbed.
