TATAU: The search for a local man who was feared drowned after he went missing on Thursday while fishing at Anau Tatau river is still ongoing.
Fire and Resue department (Bomba) stated that the search and rescue (SaR) effort entered its second day as of today (May 25).
The operation began with a rescue boat carrying three firefighters and three Royal Malaysia Police (PDRM) Tatau officers, alongside a Civil Defence Force (APM) boat with two APM officers and local residents.
The search focused at an area known as Lubuk Mengeris in Ulu Sungai Anau, covering a radius of approximately 2 km upstream and downstream, including smaller rivers.
On Thursday (May23) evening, Bomba received a distress call from IPD Tatau regarding the incident seeking for help to search the victim.
According to a police report, at approximately 6.07 pm, the victim, identified as Nicholas Daniel, aged 38, left his home to set up a fishing net in the river at around 5 pm on Wednesday (May 22).
A witness, Belaja Muriat, found the boat used by Nicholas but he could not find him.
Nicholas was last seen wearing a grey shirt and red shorts. Initial search effort by family members and the longhouse residents have been unsuccessful.
As of now the victim is yet to be found.
