KUCHING: A local man died on the spot after his pick-up truck skidded and crashed into a tree along Jalan Laksamana Cheng Ho this morning (Aug 11).
A spokesman for the Fire and Rescue Department (Bomba) said firefighters from Batu Lintang station were dispatched to the scene after receiving a distress call at 2.52am.
Upon arrival, they found the driver trapped in his seat and extricated him using rescue tools.
The victim, identified as Dickson Anggop, 36, was pronounced dead at the scene by paramedics. His body was later taken to the hospital for post-mortem procedures.
Meanwhile, his passenger, whose identity was not known, was rescued from the vehicle by the public and escaped the crash with light injuries.
Once the situation was deemed safe, the team ended the operation at 3.47am.
