MIRI: Several samples of liquefied gas found near the Grand Old Lady on top of Canada Hill have been collected and will be sent to relevant authorities for further investigation, Assistant Tourism, Arts and Culture Minister Datuk Sebastian Ting revealed today.
Ting visited the site with a retired geologist from Shell, Rick Carter, officers from Sarawak Museum Department and several firefighters.
“I’ve informed and shown the video on the discovery of this area to Chief Minister Datuk Patinggi Abang Johari Tun Openg and also Petros for further discussion (for them to look into the matter).”
Ting also expressed his concern about safety and advised the public not to go there as it could be dangerous.
“We do not know the amount of gas coming out from the well where the liquified gas was discovered on Sept 14 and it could be dangerous. Please stay away from the area.”
For the sake of public safety, the area has been cordoned off.
