KUCHING: Members of the Lions Club of Batu Niah have been urged to continue in their efforts to serve the community, particularly those who are underprivileged.
During the club’s annual general meeting, its president Andy Jong emphasised that the value of one’s contribution to the community is not measured by the amount given but rather by the degree of love and dedication shown towards the community.
“Despite having a small membership, our association is fortunate to receive unwavering support from all members, despite the constraints posed by limited human and financial resources.
“With the support and contribution of the caring community, we are still able to organise or participate in activities and community service programmes and do our best to help the community,” he said.
Jong added that the club held fundraising activities last year and this year to help needy families in rural areas. The expenses were collected through donations from the community and club members.
“In conjunction with the club’s 20th-anniversary celebration, we also donated bakery equipment worth RM2,000 to the Batu Niah Community Rehabilitation Centre to support their daily operating expenses.
“In addition, students and teachers can bake cookies and cakes and sell them in the town area or at charity sales to generate their income,” he added.
The club has also successfully organised various programmes, such as blood donation activities, motivational courses, tree planting activities, health checks, medical services, charity sales, visiting cancer children, collection of food basket programs, helping fire victims, and beach cleaning activities.
Jong thanked the committee members for their collaborative efforts and supportive attitude, which he said had given a good team spirit, passion, and commitment towards serving and contributing to the community.
