The LEGO Group, in partnership with Box of Bricks, opens its new LEGO Certified Store in Sarawak. The store, now opened at The Spring Shopping Mall, Kuching, is designed to enable families and LEGO fans to create unforgettable memories through hands-on play opportunities. Fascinatingly, the store features a variety of localised installations, such as the 3D LEGO Iban Couple, a Sarawak-themed Graphic Pillar and the brand’s History Wall.
LEGO, the interlocking plastic bricks specialist
The LEGO Group has unveiled the new LEGO Certified Store in Sarawak, Malaysia. This store marks the third LEGO Certified Store opening in just one month. The recent openings include stores in Selangor’s Sunway Pyramid Shopping Mall, Malacca’s AEON Bandaraya Melaka, and now at Kuching’s The Spring Shopping Mall (The Spring).
Since its opening in December 2024 at The Spring, the 1,482 sq. ft store has attracted a daily footfall of 2,000 visitors. This event is a significant milestone for the brand as it is the first-ever LEGO Certified Store in Sarawak, Malaysia’s largest state, which had a population of 2.5 million as of October 2024.

Explore one-of-a-kind Sarawak-themed features
As part of the brand’s ethos to inspire the builders of tomorrow, the LEGO Group is proud to integrate local Sarawak elements into its play experience, offering a unique opportunity for visitors to explore Sarawak through the creativity of building.
This landmark opening will feature an impressive 3D model of an Iban Couple built entirely from LEGO bricks. Being the first of its kind, the male and female 3D LEGO models dressed in traditional Iban costumes were built with 48,322 pieces and 35,413 pieces of LEGO bricks respectively.
Commentating on another milestone LEGO Store opening, Nina Patricia Da Costa, general manager of Singapore, Malaysia and APAC Travel Retail at the LEGO Group said, “In Sarawak, the largest state in Malaysia, I have learnt that there are 27 ethnicities. I found it fascinating that in a city with various ethnicities speaking different dialects, the people cherished their traditions and filled the city with their history and culture. This LEGO Certified Store in Kuching is a new-born gem. We hope to continue incorporating the country’s local cultural heritage into colourful LEGO bricks and we are very excited to bring them to life because the possibilities are endless!”
The 3D Iban Couple models, another labour of love by Alen Zhang, the group’s model builder specialist, capture the traditional charm of the Iban heritage (one of the local tribes in Sarawak) intricately through LEGO bricks.

Zhang, who also built the 3D Nyonya Lady for Malacca city shared, “Following the 3D Nyonya Lady curated for Malacca, it has since received overwhelming enquiries and we hope to continue creating unique and localised models which bring out the uniqueness of the city, putting LEGO play into everyday lives.”
In addition to the Iban Couple, the new store will feature a stunning Graphic Pillar showcasing iconic Sarawak cultural heritage and natural wonders, such as the hornbill, Orangutan, Rafflesia, Rumah Panjang, as well as LEGO Minifigures in an adorable “I Love Kuching” top.
For the first time in East Malaysia, visitors can marvel at the colourful Graphic Pillar with its four-sided design that captures the vibrant essence of the local heritage.
In keeping with the LEGO Group’s dedication to interactive play, the LEGO Certified Store will offer several exciting features. These include the Pick and Build Wall where customers can explore a wide range of LEGO bricks in various colours and shapes, offering endless possibilities for new creations.

For hands-on fun, visitors can enjoy the Play Table filled with LEGO bricks, one of the favourite spots in the store where parents get to spend time with their kids to build and create at their leisure.
Last but not least, the Build a Minifigure station has an assortment of LEGO Minifigure parts ranging from different hairstyles, head gears, torsos printed with costumes, accessories, and all the things you need to custom build your own unique LEGO Minifigure.
A wall showcasing the brand’s history can also be found in the store. This store opening is part of the LEGO Group’s ongoing retail strategy to offer a wide range of innovative products that blend shopping with entertainment.
The new store exemplifies the brand’s ethos of play, which has captured the hearts of families and children for generations, now extending into Sarawak.
