Welcome to the inaugural edition of “Leadership Horizon”, a brand-new weekly column that aims to illuminate the complexities and nuances of leadership in our ever-evolving world. Co-helmed by two passionate changemakers, ArgenisAngulo and Esther Law Lee Poh, this column will serve as a platform for sharing insightful experiences, innovative perspectives, and transformative ideas about leadership. Every Wednesday, Argenis and Esther invite you to delve into a shared journey exploring the essence of leadership and how it shapes our communities and businesses.
Why “Horizon”?
The term “horizon” evokes a sense of limitless potential and the promise of what lies ahead. It represents the boundary between earth and sky, just like leadership walks a delicate line between vision and execution, aspirations and reality. It is the intersection where dreams meet action — a realm where leaders must navigate change while paving the way for others.
By naming our column “Leadership Horizon” we intend to suggest the expansive possibilities that lie before us. Horizon symbolizes not just a goal but the forward-looking mindset essential for modern leaders. It encompasses a commitment to continuous growth, learning, and the exploration of uncharted territories of thought and action. Horizons make us see sunrises and sunsets in varied flavourful majesty and mystery. While every sunrise brings new light, and with that light, new opportunities for positive change, so also every sunset brings new hope, preluded by a period of respiting pondering, for an even better tomorrow
The Real Meaning of “Leadership Horizon”
In the context of our dynamic world, leadership transcends traditional notions of authority. It embodies the ability to inspire, influence, and guide others towards a shared vision. This “Leadership Horizon” will explore various dimensions of leadership across cultures and industries, grounding our discussions in stories and experiences that resonate universally.
Throughout history, effective leaders have emerged from diverse backgrounds, each bringing unique perspectives shaped by their experiences. As we navigate the landscape of leadership, we will explore the past, the present, and the trajectory of leadership’s evolution. We aim to uncover timeless principles that can guide aspiring leaders while adapting to new realities.
Argenis, with his global reach as the former World President of Junior Chamber International, and Esther, a diligent advocate for emerging entrepreneurs through her founding of YAST GROUP and EXE Healthcare, will bring rich, diverse insights to our column. Each has travelled far and wide—Argenis, having visited 65 countries and connected with 5000 business communities around the world, and Esther, having connected with 48 countries while deeply rooted in Sarawak, each of their interaction with leaders and communities has all contributed to their understanding of effective leadership.
In “Leadership Horizon”, we will share anecdotes about remarkable individuals we’ve encountered along the way—those who exemplified leadership in its various forms, inspiring and influencing the lives of those around them. We believe that by learning about the journeys of others, we can refine our understanding and execution of leadership.
The Partnership Approach
One of the cornerstones of our column’s philosophy is the idea of partnership. Why two in one column? — It’s simple. The world today requires more than just isolated voices. It demands collaboration and synergy—a fusion of ideas, experiences, and expertise. In a time where the challenges we face are complex and multifaceted, the power of partnership allows for a richer exploration of solutions. Isn’t that what horizon is, where two become one?
Argenis and Esther’s collaboration exemplifies a belief in a shared mission — enriching the world with REAL VALUE. This means… fostering meaningful “Relationships”, aiming for personal and communal “Empowerment”, forming and firming ourselves and others with the right “Attitude”, and cultivating effective and progressive “Leadership”. Our objective is to illustrate how leadership thrives in an environment of collaboration, where ideas are shared, nurtured, and expanded.
Blending, Not Splitting
At the heart of Leadership Horizon lies a fundamental belief in the beauty of blending ideas, pooling resources, and sharing knowledge. Our intention is not to merely present isolated viewpoints but rather to create a conducive environment that encourages dialogue and collaboration. It is about fostering a community of leaders ready to embrace diversity of thought and experience.
We will emphasize that true leadership isn’t about hoarding knowledge; it’s about sharing it. If we truly aspire to elevate the development of mankind, we must engage in robust conversations, harnessing the collective wisdom of our communities.
The Call to Action
As we embark on this journey together, we invite you, our readers, to cultivate your leadership potential and to explore how you can benefit others in the process. Each week, we will engage with you on timely topics that provoke thought and inspire action, inviting you into the discussion. We will explore questions like:
- What does it mean to lead consciously in today’s world?
- How do we equip ourselves for the challenges of tomorrow?
- Who are the unsung leaders in our communities that deserve recognition? And more…
In essence, Leadership Horizon is about becoming a leader who inspires, elevates others, and consistently seeks fresh ways to add value to the world. It is about creating a ripple effect where leadership is lived, felt, and shared.
Conclusion
In conclusion, Leadership Horizon is not merely a column. It is an invitation to broaden our horizons, share our insights, and contribute to the ongoing evolution of leadership in our global context. Through partnership, collaboration, and collective action, we believe we can create a future where leadership is not just a position, but a profound responsibility to serve humanity.
