KUCHING: A lawyer, Navinachandran GM Naidu @ O Rongo has lodged a police report against a constitutional law professor Shad Saleem Faruqi, alleging he (Shad) had made wrong, harmful and incorrect statement against the Sarawak government.
Navinachandran said Shad’s statement uttered during a function organised by Thompson Reuters at the Pullman Hotel in Kuching on October 8 may affect the collection of taxes by the Sarawak government pursuant to Article 95B (3) and List 11 of the Ninth Schedule of the Federal Constitution.
He added that Shad’s statement was deemed seditious and likely to cause public alarm which could affect the peace, harmony and security of Sarawak.
Shad’s opinions also had the tendency to affect the minds of judges, lawyers and politicians who attended the function, he said.
Navinachandran, who claimed to be concerned about affairs in the state, had called on the police to investigate and to stop such talks from recurring.
