BINTULU: The safety of residents of Taman Belle Hill remains a priority following the latest landslide incident which caused prolonged anxiety among residents who have faced a similar situation for over a year.
Minister of Tourism, Arts and Culture and Bintulu MP Datuk Seri Tiong King Sing recognised the increasing risk of the incident and immediately took action.
He instructed that the remaining work on the retaining wall construction be completed immediately by the end of this month to prevent further incidents.
“Another landslide has occurred in Taman Belle Hill, causing residents to often feel anxious and scared,” he said in a statement posted on his Facebook page.
To assess the current situation and ensure immediate action is taken, his representative, special officer Steven Kong Kai Seng, together with the general manager of the Bintulu Development Authority (BDA)Datuk Muhamad Yakup Kari, and representatives of the housing developer have surveyed the location of the incident.
Through the survey, it was found that only part of the retaining wall had been completed, and it was reported to be effective in preventing erosion and collapse.
However, about 40 metres of the structure are still not completed, putting the housing area at risk.
The BDA general manager also instructed the contractors involved to expedite construction work to ensure the safety of the residents and prevent any further incidents.
