BELAGA: The body of the last victim in the longboat tragedy at Long Menjawah, Batang Rajang on Sunday (June 16), has been found this morning.

A spokesman for the Fire and Rescue Department (Bomba) said the body of 30-year-old Rhuban Apparoo was discovered by members of the public at 8.22 am.

Rescuers were promptly dispatched to retrieve the body near Rh Kejaman Neh, Long Liten, which is about 18km downstream from where the boat capsized.

The body was taken to Belaga wharf and it was handed over to the police to be taken to the hospital for post-mortem procedures.

With the bodies of Rhuban and 36-year-old Balavishnu Permaloo found and taken to the hospital, the search and rescue (SAR) operation was officially called off at 10 am.

The body of a Kedah man was loaded into a police vehicle to be taken to the hospital.

On Sunday, Rhuban and Balavishnu went missing after the boat they were travelling in, sank due to strong currents in Jeram Menjawah.

Both, from Sungai Karangan, Padang Serai, Kedah, were among five people on board the boat when the incident happened around 4 pm and the other three, including the skipper, survived the incident.

Preliminary information indicated that Rhuban, Balavishnu and their two colleagues of a maintenance company for Bakun dam, had rented a boat from villagers to cruise around Jeram Menjawah. The boat was operated by Robert Jaang, a resident of Rh Apan.

Yesterday (June 18), the body of Balavishnu was found afloat in the river around 1.15 pm. His body was discovered by members of the public, about 50m from where the boat capsized.
