TINJAR: The Penan community in Tinjar marked a historic moment with the largest gathering in the area during the PETIPUN Kecil Penan Pre-Christmas Launch Ceremony.
Over 200 residents from six longhouses converged at Dewan Rumah Wen Magelit, Bukit Baled, to strengthen bonds and celebrate their shared heritage.
The programme involved six longhouses: Rumah Wen, Rumah Peberi, Rumah John, Rumah Agnes, Rumah Ismail and Rumah Galau.
Deputy Minister of Public Health, Housing, and Local Government, Datuk Dr Penguang Manggil, reiterated the government’s commitment to the Penan community’s development.
“Since becoming the Marudi assemblyman, nearly RM5 million has been allocated to these six longhouses for various projects, including interest-free longhouse construction, roads, churches, and sports facilities,” he said when officiating at the event recently.
Penguang also cautioned the community against empty promises from the opposition, urging them to remain steadfast in their support for the government’s initiatives.
Also present were Beluru District Officer representative Alvin Mang and Marudi District Council Chairman Kr. Edward Mendai and Central Tinjar Penan community leader Penghulu Larek Mat.
