BINTULU: Residents of a 50-door longhouse, Rumah Jarau, Kampung Dayak Sungai Plan here had to undergo tense moments when the back portion of the longhouse gave way to a landslide this early morning (Nov 28).
It was reported that heavy rain since Friday had caused the soil to loosen up and resulted in the landslide.
Fortunately, there were no injuries or casualties in the 7.30am incident.
According to Sarawak Fire and Rescue department operations centre, a team of firemen from Bintulu Fire Station was deployed to the scene upon responding to an alert on the incident.
However, there was no evacuation carried out as the villagers reportedly refused to move out from the longhouse to a relief centre at Stadium Muhibah here.
The fire department has advised the villagers to evacuate if the situation worsens.
