MIRI: A landslide struck Kampung Buduk Nur in Ba’Kelalan Sunday night (March 9), leaving villagers in urgent need of assistance as heavy rains continue to cause flooding in the area.

Datuk Nelson Balan Rining, a resident of the village, reported that the landslide had severely impacted several homes and farmland, particularly paddy fields, which are now submerged due to the continuous downpour in central Ba’Kelalan.

“So far, no assistance has reached the affected villagers,” he said when contacted on Monday (March 10). He has urged the relevant authorities, including the Welfare Department and the Agriculture Department, to assess the hardship faced by the community and provide necessary aid.

Balan, who was alerted to the incident by fellow villagers, has also asked the Tuai Kampung (village chief) and Penghulu (community leader) to formally request assistance.

One of the affected villagers, Tony Lisa from Punang Kelalan, had his home damaged by the landslide.

Kampung Buduk Nur is home to 12 villages, and while the road remains passable for vehicles, the community is struggling with the aftermath of the disaster.
