SIBU: A landslide occurred at Lorong Rantau Panjang Jaya 7 here on Tuesday evening (Feb 4), affecting part of a roadway near residential homes.

Fortunately, no casualties were reported during the incident.

According to Zone 4 Fire and Rescue Department (Bomba) chief Andy Alie, the incident was reported at 11.02 pm by a caller and a fire rescue team from the Sungai Merah Fire and Rescue Station was dispatched to the scene.

The rescue unit arrived at 11.08 pm and found that the landslide had covered half the road.

“There were eight two-story terrace houses near the affected area. However, the landslide did not compromise any structures, and no injuries were reported,” he said.

Firefighters conducted a thorough assessment and advised residents to remain vigilant. Meanwhile, police officers secured the site by installing safety barricades along the affected zone.

The operation was deemed under control at 11.19 pm and officially concluded at 12.40 am. Apart from Bomba, six police officers (PDRM) and two personnel from the Sibu Municipal Council (SMC) assisted in the operation.
