SIBU: The annual Lan Berambeh Sungkei 2025 breaking fast event was a resounding success, drawing an overwhelming response in its seventh edition.
Favourable weather with clear skies and a beautiful sunset provided the perfect setting, a welcome contrast to the heavy afternoon downpours of the past few days.
Deputy Minister of Education, Innovation and Talent Development Datuk Dr Annuar Rapaee, who initiated the programme, described this year’s event as the most spectacular yet.
“More than 20,000 people attended—not just from Sibu. As I walked around, I met people from Bintangor, Semop, Kuala Rajang, Tanjung Manis, and Sarikei. Everyone has come together this evening,” he said.
He said this when met by reporters at the event at Dataran Tun Tuanku Bujang Phase 1 here, yesterday evening (Mar 15).

When asked what set this year’s edition apart, Dr Annuar, who is also the Nangka assemblyman, highlighted the energy and extraordinary turnout.
“I noticed many attendees wearing Baju Melayu, with some even donning the Tengkolok.
“We also invited representatives from various religious committees to join us for the breaking of fast,” he said.
He expressed his gratitude to all government agencies that played a role, both directly and indirectly, in ensuring the event’s success.
The programme featured various activities, including a meriam buluh competition, a best-dressed competition, and a beduk beating contest. The prize presentation ceremony was officiated by National Unity Minister Datuk Seri Aaron Ago Dagang.
