SIBU: The proposal for the Lembaga Amanah Kebajikan Islam Sibu (LAKIS) kindergarten to have its own building at Masjid An-Nur compound is underway said Datuk Dr Annuar Rapaee.

The Deputy Minister for Education, Innovation, and Talent Development said that the kindergarten is currently renting a house for its operation.

“I have discussed with Land Custody and Development Authority (LCDA) to build a new kindergarten near the mosque, which will accommodate 80 students,” he said.

He said this in his speech when officiating at the certificate and prize presentation ceremony for the Sekolah Agama Rakyat Madarsatul Islamiah and Tadika Lembaga Amanah Kebajikan Islam Sibu (LAKIS) Khatam Al-Quran programme at LAKIS Hall today.

The Nangka assemblyman said that a meeting was held yesterday on the proposed design for the kindergarten.

Seperately, Dr Annuar said the new classroom setup for Sekolah Agama Integrasi LAKIS is affected by an operational permit (OP) problem.

“However, we have secured safety assurances from relevant agencies such as the Fire and Rescue Department, Sibu Municipal Council (SMC), and Public Works Department (PWD). Once resolved, we will initiate operations,” he stressed.

Dr Annuar said that a total of 20 to 25 pupils will be enrolled in the school annually once it begins operation.

“The building consists of six classrooms, and I can assure you there is no school like this in Sarawak. This is the first in Sarawak, complete with IT facilities and desks for 21st-century teaching and learning needs,” he said.

He said the integration school for Primary 1 to Primary 6 classes emphasises on English education alongside Al-Quran studies.
