ASSEMBLYMAN Semop Datuk Abdullah Saidol is a laid-back person but he is very professional when it comes to his work.
Everyone feels at ease with him due to his wonderful personality and entertaining nature.
In a candid interview with New Sarawak Tribune, the Semop assemblyman shared insights about his daily routine and personal interests.
New Sarawak Tribune: What was your routine before going to work?
Abdullah: I believe most assemblymen can answer a similar question. We wake up and get ready to do our official task. I always check my schedule prepared by the staff to ensure I’m aware of any important tasks for the next day. As an assemblyman, my focus is on taking care of the lives of the people I represent.
What are your hobbies?
I play golf and I’m currently into pickleball. I also enjoy listening to music like Jazz and Linkin Park.
Do you have any trends that you like on social media?
I’m very much into social media. I enjoy browsing Facebook and watching videos on YouTube. I follow the latest songs released by upcoming artists. I also keep up with global trends, particularly those related to humanity. For example, I find viral stories like the one about a guy called Fat Cat in China intriguing.
Which is your favourite football team?
Naturally I support my own team, Sarawak. They have great success in the past. Besides that, I also support Manchester United. I started supporting them during a period when they weren’t doing very well. However, the important thing is not which team you support: what matters is our love for the sport of football.
Do you enjoy watching movies or dramas?
I love watching movies, particularly those that depict human stories. They provide a realistic perspective. One of my favourite movies in this genre is “Sepet” directed by the late Yasmin Ahmad. I also enjoy other movies such as “When Harry Met Sally,” those featuring Tom Hanks, “Ghost”, “Pretty Woman” and many more.
Do you watch Korean dramas/movies?
Yes, of course! I watch a variety of movies, including many Korean films. There are so many great movies that it’s hard to name just one.
Do you have any plans for your retirement?
Perhaps in 10 or 20 years later, when I reach that age, I might become more spiritually inclined. At that stage, I imagine not having any worldly pursuits and focusing more on spiritual matters.
