LABUAN: Labuan is once again hosting the 20th Borneo Island International Big Bike Festival 2019 (BIIBBF) this coming Saturday, adding excitement to the Merdeka celebration on Aug 31 in the island.
The three-day annual international event which is organised by LA Riders, is fully supported by Labuan-based bike associations such as Smart Riders Club (SRC), Harley Group (HG) and
Saluk-Saluk.
LA Riders president Datuk Mohd Raffi Ali Hassan said at least 300 high-powered motorcycle riders from across Borneo Island have registered to take part in the event.
“This big bike island tour event by hundreds of bikers from Kalimantan, Indonesia, Brunei, Sarawak, Sabah and Labuan will not only hoists their respective state and national flags but also the Jalur Gemilang to display the spirit of Merdeka celebration.
“Besides helping to boost Labuan’s tourism sector, the event will also jazz up excitement of Merdeka celebration…as we were told riders from Jakarta have also registered for the event,” he said at a press conference here yesterday.
Raffi said the event would be held to gather bikers from throughout the Borneo region and help strengthen the bond among bikers.
“We expect more than 500 people to converge in Labuan throughout the event as the bikers will certainly bring along their peers and families, thus, help the local economies like hotels and eateries,” he said.
The big bike island tour will
kick-off from Labuan International Sea Sports Complex and ride through Jalan Tun Mustapha to Tg Aru, Lubok Temiang, Layangan, Sg Labu, Sg Lada and finally stopping at Desa Tunas Hijau Kg Sg Miri.
During the event a number of exciting programmes will also be held at the final point of Desa Tunas Hijau at Kg Sg Miri to make it more eventful and entertaining for the bikers and visitors in Labuan.
Other programmes include the handing over of donation to charity bodies and handing over of BIIBBF flag to Brunei riders as the 2020 BIIBBF host.
