KUCHING: This city has been chosen as the host for the International Water Association (IWA) World Water Congress and Exhibition in 2028.

This was announced by Premier Datuk Patinggi Tan Sri Abang Johari Tun Openg during the 2023 National-level Malaysia Day celebration held at the Stadium Perpaduan here in Petra Jaya this evening (Sept 16)

He described the achievement as a historic moment not only for Sarawak but also for Malaysia and the entire ASEAN region.

“Indeed, this is another significant milestone especially during our Malaysia day celebration which all Malaysians can be proud of,” he said.

Abang Johari added that the congress will be held at the newly expanded Borneo Convention Centre Kuching in 2028 and is expected to attract 10,000 participants from 80 countries.

“The congress is a global event, and it is expected to generate economic benefits and create lasting legacies that will spearhead regional collaboration within ASEAN.

“It will also position Sarawak as a prominent hub for sustainability and innovation within the global water industry.
