Kuching TKD exponents pocket 22 gold medals

BINTULU: The Kuching Taekwondo & Self-Defence Club (WTF) made an impressive showing at the Sarawak Sports Corporation’s State Taekwondo (SSC-WTF) Championship 2023 held here recently.

The team, which included 150 young athletes, took home 22 gold, 12 silver, and 17 bronze medals in the Kyorugi event, while its poomsae athletes bagged 15 gold, 12 silver, and 15 bronze medals in their respective categories.

Coach Tan Cheng Qiang expressed his satisfaction with the team’s overall performance during the three-day competition, praising the players for their focus and confidence.

He hoped the team would continue to strive for excellence and achieve further success in future national and international championships.

“Our players were quite focused and confident during their match.

“Hopefully, they will keep their feet on the ground so as to achieve further glory in the coming national and international championships,” he said.

The WTF team was led by coaches Tan Cheng Qiang, Virtlam Umpau, and Eimran Ghaffarry Mohamad Daud, as well as a team of assistant coaches and dedicated parents who provided support throughout the competition.
