KUCHING: The Ministry of Transport Sarawak (MOTS) has clarified that the RM1 subsidised fare for the Kuching-Serian bus route has been discontinued due to its participation in the Stage Bus Service Transformation (SBST) Programme.

Effective this month, the route is now operated by Biaramas Express Sdn Bhd under the BAS.MY pink buses.

The Kuching-Serian route is one of 10 routes under the SBST, a federal initiative to improve public transportation services in Kuching.

“The other nine routes will transition in phases to the SBST programme by May 2025, with the RM1 fare replaced by the MyBas50 transit pass which offers unlimited travel for RM50 per month.

“Students, senior citizens and persons with disabilities can enjoy the service for free,” the ministry said.

The initiative aims to modernise the public transport system, improve efficiency, reduce traffic congestion in the city and ensure affordable and accessible transport services, especially for the B40 group.

MOTS added that the RM1 Flat Rate Bus Fare Subsidy Programme will continue to operate for areas not covered by SBST, to ensure continued support for public transport services in Sarawak.

The ministry affirms its commitment in upgrading the public transport system in Sarawak to create a more sustainable and comfortable travel experience.
