Kuching records most Covid-19 cases on Wednesday

KUCHING: Sarawak recorded a slight increase in the number of Covid-19 cases on Wednesday (Sept 1) – 2,414, while the cumulative cases now stands at 118,972.

The Sarawak Disaster Management Committee (SDMC) said that 2,407 (99.71 per cent) of the cases were Category 1 and Category 2, with three Category 4 cases and four Category 5 cases.

“Kuching recorded the most Covid-19 cases with 1,031 followed by Bintulu (174), Sibu (121), Subis (115), Betong (107), Sri Aman (92), Bau (91), Simunjan (76), Samarahan (73), Asajaya (64), Serian (60), Tebedu (55), Limbang (53) and Song (49).

“Meanwhile, Miri and Kapit each recorded 33 cases, Tatau (32), Saratok (31), Lawas (21), Selangau (19), Lubok Antu (17), Lundu and Pusa each recorded 13 cases and Sarikei with 11 cases.

“Belaga and Kanowit each recorded six cases, Sebauh recorded five, Mukah and Bukit Mabong each recorded four cases, Pakan with three cases, and Dalat and Meradong each recorded only one case.”

SDMC said 1,761 people had close contact with Covid-19 cases, 234 were people from active clusters, 254 were  symptomatic individuals screened tested from health facilities and 157 were from various screening tests from health facilities.

Eight cases were individuals coming home or entering from Kuala Lumpur (four), Selangor (two), Kedah (one) and Sabah (one).

“2,238 people have recovered and discharged from hospitals and Covid-19 quarantine and low-risk treatment centres (PKRC).

“1,137 people have been discharged from Sarawak General Hospital (SGH), followed by Universiti Malaysia Sarawak (Unimas) PKRC (357), Serian PKRC (317), Sibu Hospital and its PKRCs (105), Bintulu Hospital and its PKRC (88), Betong PKRC (79), Kapit Hospital and its PKRCs (44), Sri Aman Hospital and its PKRCs (37), Mukah PKRC (35), Miri Hospital and its PKRCs (18), Sarikei Hospital and its PKRCs (14), Lawas PKRC (four) and Limbang Hospital and its PKRCs (three).”

The cumulative number of discharged cases is 92,156 or 77.46 per cent while Sarawak still has 26,075 active cases.
