KUCHING: Legendary disco group Boney M kicked off their highly anticipated 50th Anniversary Tour with a spectacular concert here, captivating an audience of approximately 4,000 fans.
Led by original member Maizie Williams, a stunning performance unfolded at the Great Hall, Borneo Convention Centre Kuching (BCCK) yesterday evening (Jan 4).
The evening opened with an engaging performance by local band At Adau complemented by the vocal talents of Joana Lopez and Anne Hans, and backed by the lively brass section Borneo Braxx.
The opening act set the stage for an extraordinary night which marked the start of the year with an unforgettable night of music and celebration.
At 8pm Williams made her entrance and dazzled the audience in a striking red dress.
Joined by fellow singers Kelly Rahman, Samantha Scott, and Doreen Patel, she captivated the crowd with a series of timeless hits that showcased Boney M’s enduring legacy.
The setlist included timeless classics such as Sunny, the song that launched a wave of hits, along with Daddy Cool, Hooray Hooray, Belfast, Ma Baker, Malaika, Calendar Song, Bahama Mama, I Shall Sing and No Woman, No Cry.
The performance reached its peak with an electrifying rendition of Do You Wanna Bump and a series of solo showcases by the band, which highlighted their exceptional musicality.
After a brief intermission, Williams made a dazzling return in a glittering outfit, performing crowd favorites like Brown Girl in the Ring, Rasputin, Bahama Mama, Rivers of Babylon, and closing with Gotta Go Home.
For the record, the concert was the first event of the Front Row Live Series 2025, organised by Front Row Entertainment.
This ambitious initiative aims to boost Kuching’s tourism sector by hosting major international and local performances.
Following the success of Boney M 50th Anniversary Tour’s concert, the series will continue with a stand-up comedy festival and a live music concert in Miri later in the year.
