KUCHING: The Kuching Dodgeball Association (KDA) has launched the Kuching Dodgeball Social League (KDSL) to promote the sport’s growth in the city.
The league, which kicked off on Thursday (March 13) at Arena Sukan, features five teams—Tsuwave, Supernova, Crocodily, Crocodoodle, and Santai Pantai—representing Tsunami Dodgeball Club, Swinburne Gators Dodgeball Club, and UNIMAS Hawks Dodgeball Club.
On Matchday 1, Tsuwave claimed a 6-2 victory over Crocodoodle, while Supernova edged out a narrow 6-5 win.
KDA manager Darren Robin expressed excitement about the league’s potential, noting that it provides players with an opportunity to experience structured competition over the next seven weeks.
“It has always been my dream to create high quality competitions and leagues in the dodgeball community in Kuching.
“The players will be able to experience how an official game is played and managed as they will claw it out for the next 7 weeks,” he said in a statement yesterday (Mar 14).
Tsunami Dodgeball Club president Brian Chin Yung Liang said he believes the league will improve competitiveness, providing both new and experienced players a structured environment to grow.
He also sees it as a platform to discover hidden talents and develop their skills.
Meanwhile, Tsuwave captain Felix Isadore David was thrilled with their opening win and hoped the league would help raise interest in the sport.
“I think KDSL will be an emerging platform that helps to garner interest toward the sport while fostering enthusiasm to improve both as a player and as a team in the beautiful game of dodgeball,” said Felix.
Santai Pantai captain Reuben Ling took pride in his team’s resilience despite their narrow loss, highlighting their strong teamwork and eagerness to learn.
The Kuching Dodgeball Social League takes place every Thursday from 8 pm to 10 pm at Arena Sukan.
After the first round of matches, Tsuwave leads the standings with three points, followed by Supernova, Crocodily, Crocodoodle, and Santai Pantai.
