KUCHING: Kuching City FC are determined to finish the season on a high note, with their sights firmly set on securing maximum points from their final two matches as they push for a coveted top-three finish.
Currently, the Cats sit in third place, level on points with Sabah in fourth, with both teams having 36 points.
Kuching are ahead by a 2-goal difference, while Terengganu follows closely at fifth with 32 points.
Club chairman Datuk Fazzrudin Abdul Rahman pointed out the importance of taking control of their destiny rather than relying on potential slip-ups from their competitors, Sabah and Terengganu.
He made these remarks to reporters at the Hari Raya open house at N6 Tupong, at the Hikmah Exchange Event Centre, on Thursday.
“Our focus right now is to collect as many points as possible in these final two games. Sabah are currently level on points with us, so we can’t afford to wait for them to falter.
“If we give our best, the results will follow. Securing third place would be a remarkable achievement for the club,” he said.
There is confidence in the Kuching camp, as they have won 9 games, drawn 9, and lost 4 after 22 matches played, and are potentially in contention for the ASEAN Club Championship.
The City Boys will host the already crowned league champions, Johor Darul Ta’zim (JDT), at the Sarawak State Stadium on Wednesday (April 16) at 8.15 pm.
Just four days later, they will travel to Tuanku Abdul Rahman Stadium to face Negeri Sembilan in their final league match of the season.
Time will tell, and with every match feeling like a cup final, the stakes are high and the drama unrelenting.
