Krokong lass wins Miss Bengoh Culture

KUCHING: A 27-year-old, Crystal Daniel from Krokong, Bau was adjudged the champion of the 3rd Miss Bengoh Culture held in conjunction with the Bengoh Cultural Carnival on Saturday night.

She won RM1,500 cash and a trophy.

Patricia Ho Chia Chia, 21, from Padawan was first runner-up and took home RM1,000 cash and a trophy, while Chinese/Kenyah lass Rachel Yeow Chen-Chen,22, won the third placing and received RM500 cash and  a trophy.

Seven consolation prizes winners were a 25-year-old Kadazan Dusun lass from Sabah Christina Petrus, 19-year-old Iban lass Prishyella Florence Walter, Ann Faustina Rued, 28, Elviana Tenit, 23, Lydia Hyginus, 18, Cincilin Voon Tara,22, and Felicia Michele Juran, 27.

Datin Lee Chia Fong, the wife of Assistant Transport Minister Datuk Dr Jerip Susil and last year Miss Bengoh winner Samantha Andrea Razak jointly crowned the winners, while Datuk Dr Jerip presented the prizes to all the 10 finalists.

Both Crystal and Patricia Ho have been invited to participate in the Miss Tagang pageant to be held on July 29 at Kampung Semadang inconjunction with the third Semadang Tagang Festival at Kampung Semadang, Jalan Puncak Borneo.

Meanwhile Kelab Kebudayaan K1M Opar took home RM1,000 and a trophy as the champion of the gong beating and traditional dance competition and RM5,000 grant from Jerip.

First and second runner-up were Kelab Kebudayaan Kampung Benuk and Oyak Gonuk Singai, who won RM700 and RM500 respectively.

Fourth and fifth placing were C.A Cultural Troupe and Land Dayak Cultural Club respectively.

Other activities include the army exhibition, traditional sports competitions (blowpipe and lastic) and karaoke singing competition.
