KUCHING: KPJ Kuching Specialist Hospital is expecting a 20 per cent increase in medical tourists following the announcement of a new route connecting Indonesia’s capital city Jakarta and Kuching, which will start on June 15.
KPJ Kuching general manager Nurhazimah Mahat said the new route introduced by AirAsia is definitely great news that has been long awaited, especially for the medical tourism sector.
The new route, she said, will further strengthen bilateral relations between the two countries, having a positive impact on economic development.
“It is not only strengthening the relationship between the two countries but also having a positive impact on the economic development and growth in Sarawak.
“We are expecting a 20 per cent increase in medical tourists from Jakarta following the introduction of this new route,” she said in a statement today.
At the same time, Nurhazimah said, it is hoped that there will be a direct flight connecting Pontianak and Kuching, as most of the patients receiving treatment at KPJ Kuching are from West Kalimantan, Indonesia.
