KUALA LUMPUR: Minister in the Prime Minister’s Department Datuk Seri Dr Mujahid Yusof Rawa today read out the five thrusts in the KL Peace Declaration 2019 at the “Solidarity4Peace” rally in Dataran Merdeka here.

He said the world must be against the culture of hate as this could lead to violent acts.

“Violent acts should not be associated to any religion or ethnicity because violence has no religion nor bound to any ethnicity,” he said.

The gathering was held following the mass shooting tragedy at two mosques in Christchurch, New Zealand on March 15, which left 50 Muslims dead and dozens more injured.

The KL Peace Declaration 2019 affirms to the following:

  1. Condemning any act of discrimination, violence and killing in the name of religion or ethnicity.
  2. Rejecting any act or culture based on hatred in the name of religion or ethnicity.
  3. Supporting all efforts to foster peace and promote harmony among people of all ethnicities and religions.
  4. Defending the Federal Constitution and sovereignty of the country from being destroyed by agents of racial and religious hatred.
  5. Being in solidarity with the citizens of the world in developing an environment of peace and prosperity based on the recognition of diverse ethnicity and religion.

Organised by the Prime Minister’s Department (Islamic Religious Affairs Department) and Committee to Promote Inter-Faith Understanding and Harmony (JKMPKA) in collaboration with the Civil Society Organisation (CSO), the gathering was participated by 50 non-governmental organisations and Sikh, Taoism, Christian, Hindu and Muslim religious associations. – Bernama
