KUCHING: Former Sarawak DAP vice chairman Wong King Wei has confirmed he will not seek re-election in Padungan seat in the impending 12th state election.

He said his decision to not defend the seat was after taking into consideration several factors including his wish to retire from active politics.

“I will not contest in this coming state election … due to several reasons, and also, I want to retire from active politics for now,” he said when contacted on Wednesday (Nov 24).

Wong has been the DAP elected representative for the seat for two terms since he was first elected in the 2011 state elections.

However, on Jul 26 last year, he announced his decision to quit DAP with immediate effect despite the party leadership offering to retain him as the party’s candidate for the seat in the coming state election.

Wong had humbly rejected the offer.

He thanked the voters in Padungan for their strong support while he was their elected representative.
