KUCHING: Rich, creamy, and bittersweet — just how durian lovers like it!
Well, it is that time of the year again when the aroma of durians fills the air in parts of the state.
For 64-year-old Khushiri Salleh, this season is particularly busy yet rewarding.
A retiree whose family’s orchard is located in Ensengei, Serian, he has been selling his durians for about a week and is happy with the response from customers.
“This year, the season has been good, and the demand is quite high.
“I believe durians are everyone’s favourite, and during peak season like now, people look forward to buying and enjoying them,” he told Sarawak Tribune.
Khushiri sells his durians at a price range of RM10 to RM25, depending on the size and variety.
Thus far, he said, he had been selling the durians to friends, family, and new customers in the Kuching area.
“The durians come from our family’s orchard in Ensengei, and we have been selling them since last year,” he added.
He then said that for some seasons, there are more fruits, while others have fewer.
“But overall, I’m happy with what we’ve been able to harvest this time around,” he said.
As the durian season continues, Khushiri is hopeful for more sales and cherishes the opportunity to bring joy to fellow durian lovers.
“There’s nothing quite like the happiness of people enjoying the fruit of your hard work,” he said.
For durian enthusiasts in Sarawak, this is the perfect time to indulge in the fruit’s creamy, custard-like texture and distinctive taste.
However, remember to enjoy them in moderation and drink plenty of water!
