KUCHING: Daeloniel McDelon Bong popularly known as Kilat Boy is set for a showdown with Thailand’s Yutthichai Wannawong in the WBC Asia Silver Super Bantamweight Championship on Saturday, May 11.
Sarawak Amateur Boxing Association (SABA) president Datuk Rahman Lariwoo said the two fighters will fight for 10 rounds in the Super Bantamweight and will vie for the cash prize of USD 2,700 for the winner.
“This fight will be an opportunity (for Kilat Boy) to obtain points and rise up the ranks as well as a platform for preparation for Kilat Boy for the WBC in Singapore and also South Korea,” he told reporters at a press conference at Sarawak Media Group in CityOne Megamall on Monday (Apr 8).
Rahman also said the championship which runs from 3pm onwards will also witness fighters from Japan and India bout for 10 rounds in the Flyweight category while other fights will only bout for 6 rounds.
Both winners for the Flyweight and Super Bantamweight category will receive USD 2,700.
“The entry to watch the fights are free, the public and everyone are welcome to watch the fights happening on the day,” he said.
Rahman revealed that the championship held at the Petra Jaya Multipurpose Stadium will be officiated at by Premier Datuk Patinggi Tan Sri Abang Johari Tun Openg.
Leading up to the fight with Thailand’s Yutthichai Wannawong, Kilat Boy will spar with Herlan Gomez from the Philippines later this month.
The World Boxing Championship held for the first time in Malaysia will welcome twelve countries including Italy, Brazil, Australia, the UK, United States of America (USA), India, and Japan among them.
Rahman also said the WBC is the highlight of the Sarawak Open which will commence from May 6 and ends on May 10.
