A warm and peaceful atmosphere filled Surau Nurul Hijrah in Kampung Bukit Kudi here recently as families and friends gathered for a special evening.

Smiles and quiet conversations filled the air as they eagerly awaited the moment to break their fast. With a glass of water and a date, they embraced the first sip and bite, a simple yet meaningful moment of gratitude.

The congregation then stood shoulder to shoulder for Maghrib prayers, their voices rising in unison in devotion. After that, they enjoyed a hearty meal, sharing laughter and stories in the spirit of togetherness.

As the night deepened, they continued with Isyak and Tarawih prayers, preparing their hearts for the highlight of the evening — the Khatam al-Quran ceremony.

The event began at 9.15pm, marking a significant spiritual milestone for the community. Now in its third year since its inception in 2023, this annual event has become a cherished tradition, strengthening the love for the Quran across all generations.

This year, 10 children and 25 adults successfully completed their Quranic recitation, a proud achievement that reflected their dedication and commitment.

In her speech, Dayang Heriah Awang Hip, the programme’s chairperson, expressed deep gratitude, emphasising that the event was not just about completing a recitation but about strengthening faith and deepening the connection with the Quran.

She spoke about how the Quran is more than just a book — it is a guide for life, a source of wisdom, and a path to righteousness.

She highlighted the importance of not only reading but also understanding and practising the teachings of the Quran in daily life.

Through this programme, participants had the opportunity to improve their fluency and tajwid, ensuring that they recite with accuracy and reverence.

More than that, the event aimed to instil a lifelong habit of engaging with the Quran, making it a central part of everyday life rather than just a ritual during Ramadan.

The gathering was also a means of fostering good character and strengthening the moral fabric of the community.

By internalising Quranic values, individuals could strive to be more compassionate, honest, and responsible in their interactions.

Above all, she reminded everyone that reading and living by the Quran brings immense blessings and rewards from Allah, guiding them towards a life filled with peace and purpose.

The atmosphere during the recitation was deeply moving, as voices young and old resonated in unison, filling the surau with the beautiful rhythm of Quranic verses. Many in attendance felt a profound sense of peace, reflecting on the importance of the Quran as a guide for life.

By 10.30pm, the ceremony concluded with the presentation of mementos to the participants, marking the end of a meaningful and blessed gathering.

Participants left with a renewed commitment to keeping the Quran close to their hearts, ensuring that its teachings remain a guiding light in their daily lives.

This annual programme is more than just a gathering — it is a testament to the enduring faith and unity of the Kampung Bukit Kudi community, ensuring that the love for the Quran continues to flourish for generations to come.
