BINTULU: The bridge over Kemena River connecting Bintulu with Jepak will be completed next year.

According to Agriculture Modernisation and Development Minister cum Kemena assemblyman Datuk Seri Dr Stephen Rundi Utom, the bridge will be a game changer as it will be a new landmark here.

“Bintulu is now rapidly developing and has a brilliant future ahead of it, especially in becoming a big city specialising in industrial, business and tourism.

“This is all thanks to the industrial growth in Kidurong, Tanjung Batu which has been extended to Samalaju and business growth in Bintulu which has attracted foreign investors to invest in Malaysia and then in Sarawak.

“Not to mention, these economic activities have also transformed Bintulu into a new city that contributes to the continuous development of the community,” he said at the state-level Malaysia Day celebration on Friday (Sept 16) evening.

Pointing out that Bintulu is strategically located in the middle of Sarawak, Rundi stated it makes the city focus on the industrial and business sectors.

“When we look at the Bakun, Murum and Baleh Hydroelectric Dams, we have enough energy to help attract investment from outside thus bringing more profit to the state.

“As a matter of fact, Bintulu also generates development on a large scale because it has an airport, two deep sea ports namely Bintulu Port and Samalaju Industrial Port,” he said.

For the development that has been achieved, he thanked Head of State Tun Pehin Sri Abdul Taib Mahmud for his great service since 1963 in developing Bintulu.
