BAU: The Bidayuh community is called on to continue to support the Dayak Bidayuh National Association (DBNA) in matters related to the documenting of customary land.

Deputy Minister of Transport (Maritime and Riverine) Datuk Henry Harry Jinep said that since the last 16 years, DBNA has been recognised as having an efficient and effective approach in handling land documentation.

“Without land documentation from the DBNA, it is very difficult for the state Land and Survey Department to carry out individual land surveying work because it involves the issue of boundary disputes between landowners,” he said.

Henry who is also the Tasik Biru assemblyman said this during the blessing and launching ceremony of the DBNA Bau Branch Central multipurpose hall here on Saturday.

He added that the tender for the construction project of the Bidayuh Cultural Centre, which is worth RM9 million and owned by DBNA, will be carried out after a meeting to be held at the Bau district office on May 12.

“The ground-breaking ceremony will be held next June which is after the Gawai Festival and I suggest that it will be officiated by the DBNA adviser, who is also Bidayuh Prima Datuk Roland Sagah Wee Inn,” he said.

Meanwhile, Serembu assemblyman Miro Simub said the DBNA Bau Branch Central multipurpose hall is a facility that can be used as a place to organise courses involving 50 people or on a small-scale.

He also expressed his gratitude to the leadership of DBNA president Datuk Ik Pahon for having sacrificed a lot of time and energy in elevating the association to become a respected one in Sarawak.

“Now many other communities and the Sarawak Premier himself have followed the land documentation formula done by DBNA in solving customary land problems,” he added.

During the same event, the two assemblymen also approved the allocation of funds under the Minor Rural Project (MRP) for 2023 to be channelled to DBNA Bau Branch worth a total of RM10,000 each.
