KUCHING: Deputy Premier Datuk Seri Dr Sim Kui Hian has called for continued efforts to keep Sarawak a harmonious state.
He said people in the state are very tolerant and respectful of each other despite differences in race and religion.
“As we gather together here for the Hindu Cultural Night programme, not only are we strengthening our relations in the community, but also with people of other races and religions who are welcome to join this programme and experience the culture.
“This is also in line with the state government’s efforts in ensuring unity among the community, as well as practicing the concept of inclusivity in holding a ceremony,” he said when officiating at the Hindu Cultural Night at the Hare Krishna Multipurpose Hall, on Sunday night (June 19).
Therefore, he urged the people to work together to make Sarawak a peaceful and peaceful place to live in.
Malaysian Hindu Sangam President Datuk R S Mohan Shan also expressed pride in the sense of brotherhood among the community in the state.
He also acknowledged the existence of the Unit For Other Religions (UNIFOR) which gave importance to the non-Muslim community.
“Thank you for the efforts of Sarawak Premier Datuk Patinggi Tan Sri Abang Johari Tun Openg for taking this step in looking after the welfare of the non-Muslim community.
“This initiative is very important in maintaining Sarawak as a state of unity and where we can live a harmonious atmosphere.
“I would also like to call on UNIFOR to continue its efforts to understand the importance of every other religion. Understanding plays an important role in ensuring that the state is in a state of peace and tranquility,” he explained.
The programme continued through the night with several dance performances from the Hindu youth community as well as with lucky draws.
Also present were Batu Kitang assemblyman Lo Khere Chiang, UNIFOR Director Richard Lon, Malaysia Hindu Sangam Sarawak State Council Chairman Thondarmani S Krishnarao as well as Archbishop Simon Poh.
