KUCHING: Democratic Action Party (DAP) secretary-general Anthony Loke has called on Sarawakian voters, especially the younger generation, to vote wisely in the next general election (GE-15).

“We want to retain the six DAP MPs here in Sarawak, namely Stampin MP Chong Chieng Jen, Bandar Kuching MP Dr Kelvin Yii, Lanang MP Alice Lau, Sibu MP Oscar Ling, Sarikei MP Wong Ling Biu and Mas Gading MP Mordi Bimol.

“This is because we want to prevent a landslide victory from happening so that the opposition from Sarawak can be represented to provide a check and balance in Parliament,” Loke said during a DAP Sarawak fundraising dinner themed ‘Hope Rekindled’ at Hoi Tin Lao Restaurant here on Yesterday (August 13).

Loke reiterated that in order to prevent a landslide victory from one coalition, each and every Malaysian needs to come out and vote because votes matter.

“We know that everyone feels DAP and the Pakatan Harapan (PH) coalition will face a tough battle in the 15th general election with Gabungan Parti Sarawak (GPS) aspiring to win all 31 parliamentary seats in Sarawak.

“We need a balance in political representation and that is why it is very important for the voters to come out and vote wisely,” Loke added.
Loke praised Chong as an experienced leader and for having a strong record of supporting around 100 students from poor background to obtain scholarships to continue their studies in universities.

Loke also said that Dr Yii has huge potential as a leader for the country in the future.

“As an MP only in his first term, he has already been appointed as the DAP Youth chief and the chairman of the parliamentary select committee on health, science and innovation.

“From the past record, all of the previous DAP Youth chiefs have gone on to hold an important role in the political scene in our country and I believe he would be the same as well in the future,” Loke added.

Meanwhile, Loke added that all the 42 DAP MPs have remained loyal in keeping to their principles and their integrity the past two years after the fall of PH government.

“Unlike what we have seen from other coalitions or parties where there were many ‘frogs’ or ‘katak’, none of our 42 DAP MPs has jumped or ‘lompat’ to another,” Loke said
