MIRI: A vibrant atmosphere enveloped the karaoke competition held in celebration of Hari Raya Aidilfitri, organised by the Kedayan Association of Miri in collaboration with the Wireless Walk Traders Association, Sunday night (April 20) at the Wireless Walk venue.
The event attracted over 30 participants from Brunei Darussalam, Miri, and Bekenu, representing a diverse cross-section of the community eager to showcase their talents through renditions of both popular songs and festive Raya tunes.
Among the standout performances, Nur Qasrina Qarmila stole the show, crowned champion in the Raya Songs category for her captivating rendition of “Serumpun Lagu” by Mimifly.
The runner-up position was claimed by Hajijah Pi, who impressed with her performance of “Bila Takdir Bergemar” by Raefah Buang, while third place was secured by Mohd Hussaini Abdullah from Brunei Darussalam, who delivered a heartfelt rendition of “Suara Takbir” by P. Ramlee.
Mohamad Abdullah Jamin, chairman of the Kedayan Association of Miri as well as the Wireless Walk Traders Association, said the competition aimed not only to enliven Aidilfitri celebrations but also to strengthen ties within the local community.
“Collaboration between the Wireless Walk Traders Association and Kedayan members in Miri has enhanced the atmosphere and provided an opportunity for local traders to engage during the event.”
The evening was also graced by special guest performances and lucky draw surprises. In the Open Category, Zaria Bana claimed victory with her rendition of “Lagu Cinta Terbaik,” followed by Sarihat Yahya in second place for “Lagu Suzana,” and Herman Abdullah from Brunei, who secured third with “Tangisan dan Cinta.”
Prizes for the winners included RM300 for first place, RM200 for second, and RM100 for third, along with trophies and gift hampers for each category.
Additionally, awards for Best Vocal and Best Performance each received RM50.
In attendance to present the awards were Sarkawi Suhaili, political secretary to the Premier of Sarawak; councillor Julaihi Trang; and Abdullah Jaini, chairman of the Melanau Association of Miri.
