KUCHING: Deputy Chief Minister Tan Sri Datuk Amar Dr. James Jemut Masing expressed his pride that Rumah Bengau, Sg. Sut, Baleh which won the National Level Champion of the ‘Desa Perdana’ ADP (Longhouse Category) this year which
comes with prizes including cash of RM150,000.
The proud longhouse committee received the award from the Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib Razak on 22nd of this month in Kuala Lumpur.
Congratulating the winners for the award Masing, who is also Baleh Assemblyman, said the award was for
the longhouse category which was judged for cleaningness, beautification and also for the good leadership in management within
the longhouse folks.
“This shows that despite being set in the interior of Sarawak, the residents of Rumah Bengau have the ability and capability to compete with those longhouses nearer to the urban areas. Distance from the
city does not prevent rural folks from being good in their management
and their love to make good of their surroundings,” he added.
To be successful, he pointed out, one must have the willingness to learn which certainly is not limited by distance or accessibility.
Rumah Bengau was the first longhouse in Baleh constituency visited by the Prime Minister before.
