KAPIT: The town is set to receive 5G internet access next month, says Deputy Minister of Digital Datuk Wilson Ugak Kumbong.

He said that he was informed by Digital Nasional Berhad (DNB) that the installation would cover a 5km radius around Kapit District Council (MDK).

“We currently have 4G internet access, but it’s insufficient. I have been assured that the installation will be completed by June 15, if not earlier,” he said when met by reporters after attending pre-Gawai celebration at Kapit Civic Centre last night (May 11).

He noted the importance of ensuring adequate internet access in the town’s administrative area, particularly given complaints about connectivity issues affecting productivity and service delivery.

“It is crucial for administrative hubs like Kapit town centre, where hospitals, councils, and schools are located, to have reliable and fast internet coverage,” he added.

This upgrade is expected to benefit approximately 30,000 residents residing in the town centre.

“I also hope that Belaga will be the next area to receive 5G internet access,” he expressed.
