KAPIT: A faulty pump at the Jabatan Bekalan Air Luar Bandar (JBALB) Water Treatment Plant Kapit on Monday caused the whole of Kapit town and its surrounding areas to face acute shortage of water supply.

On Monday afternoon, residential areas that are on higher ground, including at Jalan Puan Sri Tiong, Jalan Hill Top, Jalan Bukit Goram, Jalan Bletih experienced very low water pressure. In the evening, low water pressure was also felt at Kapit Town especially those on the third floor and above.

According to JBALB spokesperson, one of the main water pumps has been faulty since Monday.

There are altogether six pumps at the Water Treatment Plant with two big pumps and four small pumps that are capable of producing some 18 MLD (million litres per day) that is sufficient to supply water to all consumers.

Since there is no spare pump, once any pump breaks down, it would affect the supply the spokesperson said. It was learnt that the department has arranged for the repair of the faulty pump.
