KUCHING: The completion of the iconic bridge in Kampung Bintangor here is set to boost the local economy of the area.
Satok assemblyman Datuk Ibrahim Baki said the bridge would become a tourist attraction while also providing comfort to the residents in the surrounding places.
“We do have plans to enhance local economic activities in the area, taking advantage of this infrastructure. The movement of people in and out of the area will increase, which will have a positive impact on the surrounding residents.
“Therefore, we hope that the bridge will be completed according to the scheduled timeline,” he said.
He said this when met by reporters after distributing mandarin oranges and greeting posters to the public around Jalan Nanas here today.
Ibrahim also mentioned that an alternative one-lane road for entry and exit (beside the bridge) will be opened temporarily to ease public travel.
“We do not want to fully open it yet as there are still ongoing construction works that could pose risks to users. Once it is fully completed and safe, we will open the road,” he explained.
Responding to reporters’ questions about the new construction of Chung Hua Middle School No. 4 on Jalan Haji Taha, he revealed that the new construction site had been identified.
“The construction start date is yet to be determined, but the building design and planning processes have been completed, and it may begin next year.
“Once the school is completed, students will move to the new building,” he briefly stated.
Meanwhile, the Sarawak government has allocated RM20 million for the relocation of the school on an eight-acre plot in Stutong on February 25, 2024.
