KUCHING: The KafeTEEN Outreach Truck Programme targets to reach out to 6,000 teenagers nationwide this year.

Women, Family and Community Development Minister Datuk Seri Nancy Shukri explained that the truck provides on-the-ground services for teenagers to conduct healthy and beneficial activities.

“So far we have 18 existing KafeTEEN Youth Centres nationwide. Out of that number, eight are at the National Population and Family Development Board (LPPKN) premises, eight at the Urban Transformation Centre (UTC), and two are known as KafeTEEN Transit Centres,” she said.

The number includes the recently added KafeTEEN Outreach Truck which was handed over to the LPPKN as a symbolic improvement to the existing outreach programme implemented by LPPKN.

Adding on, she noted that her ministry through LPPKN, also expanded the Reproductive and Social Health Education Advocacy Programme to foster resilience and identity in teenagers and maintain social boundaries.

Nancy said the ‘Don’t Be Afraid to Find Out, Don’t Be Afraid to Know’ campaign aims to educate teenagers about the knowledge and understanding of the negative effects of premarital sex, reproductive health and social symptoms that surround teenagers.

“Furthermore, it also aims to nurture the youth’s identity through the appreciation of the values of ‘KASIH’ – love (kasih sayang), morality (akhlak), health and safety (sihat dan selamat), knowledge and harmony (berilmu dan harmoni) to prevent them from engaging in any immoral activities, in line with the Malaysia Madani concept.

“In light of this, we also want to highlight KafeTEEN as a centre for implementing programmes related to Reproductive and Social Health Education (PEKERTI) with youth-friendly facilities,” she said.
