KUCHING: The Juh Berambeh Sungkey mass breaking of fast event at Padang Merdeka reflects the uniqueness of the people here.
Minister of Tourism, Creative Industry and Performing Arts Datuk Seri Abdul Karim Rahman Hamzah said aside from enlivening the month of Ramadan, this programme also serves to unite the people.
“Apart from the Muslims breaking their fast this evening, we also have many friends, members of the community, or those from other religions, who are participating in this event.

“As we know that in Sarawak, we have many different races and religions, and when we celebrate such events, we celebrate together.
“That’s the uniqueness and one of the reasons why we are united with one another,” he said in his speech when officiating at the programme here, yesterday evening (Mar 15).
Abdul Karim also expressed hope that such programmes would strengthen unity among the people and offer an opportunity for individuals of different religions and races to gain an understanding of the practices of others who may not share the same faith.
He added that the previous event at the same location was a great success, and this year’s event is equally remarkable.
About 5,000 attendees joined the Juh Berambeh Sungkey 2025, which was organized by the Proactive Youth Club and Borneo Glamping and supported by the Ministry of Youth, Sports, and Entrepreneur Development (MYSED).
Other strategic partners include the Unit for Other Religions (UNIFOR), Kuching North City Hall (DBKU), Cats FM, Sarawak Umrah and Hajj Association (SUHA), Nestlé (Malaysia) Sdn Bhd, Kuching Water Board, Sarawak Tourism Board, Hornbill Network Consortium, and the PBB N.11 Batu Lintang branch.
