SIBU: A joint enforcement team comprising officers from Sarawak Forestry Corporation’s (SFC) Sibu Regional Office and marine police foiled an illegal logging operation at logpond in Sungai Sebunus, Jalan Selirik, Kapit, last Wednesday.

Under the ComplianceTask Force Ops, SFC and Marine Police team conducted the raid and seized 449 logs. The logs comprising various sizes are believed to be from illegal logging at the forest area and waiting to be transported to other locations. None of the logs bear any official markings and were subsequently detained upon confirming that the log pond is unauthorised or unregistered,” said a statement issued by SFC yesterday.

“A report has been lodged at Kapit Police Station. The case will be handed over to the Forest Department for further investigation,” added the statement.
