KUCHING: The Magistrates’ Court here fined an unemployed man RM7,000, in default 19 months in prison, for possessing 1.21 grammes (g) of methamphetamine and abusing drugs.
Wee Ming, 34, pleaded guilty before Magistrate Mason Jaro Lenya Barayan to two charges under the Dangerous Drugs Act 1952.
For the first charge, he was convicted under Section 12(2) of the same Act, punishable under Section 12(3), for possessing 1.21g of methamphetamine at a hotel at around 8 pm on March 21, 2019.
He was fined RM4,100, in default nine months in prison.
For the second count, Wee was charged under Section 15(1)(a) of the Dangerous Drugs Act 1952, punishable under Section 15(1) of the same Act, for abusing amphetamine and methamphetamine.
He was fined RM2,900, in default 10 months in prison.
Magistrate Mason Jaro also ordered him to be placed under police supervision for three years after paying the fine or serving his sentence.
According to the case facts, police raided a budget hotel on suspicion of a drug activity and arrested Wee.
Inspection revealed two plastic packets containing crystalline substance in his trouser pocket, which was later confirmed by the Chemistry Department as methamphetamine weighing 1.21g.
He tested positive for drugs while detained at the Sarawak Narcotics Crime Investigation Division (NCID) Office at around 9.10 pm on March 21, 2019.
Insp. Nur Shafiqa Nyaie Ilin prosecuted the case while Wee was unrepresented.
