KUCHING: An unemployed man suspected of possessing drugs was arrested by the police on Wednesday afternoon.
The suspect was picked up by the police at Kampung Siol Kandis here at 3.30pm following a tip-off from the public.
The police also seized a metal container, 14 straw tubes filled with crystalline substance believed to be syabu weighing 5.23 grammes with a value of RM957.60 and a plastic packet containing dried leaves believed to be marijuana weighing 0.73 grammes.
The suspect was taken to a police station where he was later tested positive for drugs.
Police were investigating the case under Section 39A (1) and 6 of the Dangerous Drugs Act, 1952.
Meanwhile in a separate incident, a businessman claimed he was beaten up by his son at his own house at Jalan Nanas Barat here on Wednesday morning.
The 77-year-old man said the incident took place at around 6.00am when the suspect suddenly attacked him when he asked him if he had seen his motorcycle.
He also claimed that his daughter was also threatened by the suspect when she tried to intervene.
The victim said he sustained head injuries following the attack and he decided to lodge a police report on the incident after his daughter advised him to do so.
Police were investigating the case.
