KUCHING: Deputy Minister in the Premier’s Department (Native Customs and Laws) Datuk Jefferson Jamit Unyat has pledged to work even harder for the people after securing the highest number of votes in the Supreme Council elections of the Pesaka Wing of Parti Pesaka Bumiputera Bersatu (PBB).
Describing the contest as a “family affair,” Jamit, who is also Bukit Goram assemblyman, expressed his gratitude for the strong support from party delegates, emphasising that their votes serve as a mandate for him to work even harder for the people as well as the party.
“This result is a message from the delegates, requesting us to work harder. When they give you a good result, when they elect you, and you get the highest vote, it means you have to work extra hard.
“We must be guided by this principle,” he said to reporters at the PBB 16th Triennial General Meeting at Borneo Convention Centre Kuching (BCCK).
Jamit was among the 19 candidates who vied for the 14 positions in the Supreme Council of the Pesaka Wing for the 2025 to 2028 term.
Jamit, 66, an Iban from Kapit, secured the highest number of votes with 1,008, followed by Deputy Minister of Infrastructure and Port Development (Infrastructure Development) Datuk Aidel Lariwoo with 998 votes, and Balingian assemblyman Abdul Yakub Arbi with 995 votes.
He acknowledged that while all candidates were highly qualified, the limited number of Supreme Council seats meant that not everyone could be elected.
Jamit noted that the trust placed in him by the party members serves as motivation to contribute more to PBB and its leadership, particularly in supporting Premier Datuk Patinggi Tan Sri Abang Johari Tun Openg’s vision for Sarawak.
“There are high expectations from the delegates. When they vote for you, they expect you to work even harder. Because the party is for the future of our party, and for our future generation also.
“It is also about supporting the development of the people, the government, and Gabungan Parti Sarawak (GPS) to strengthen Sarawak, especially in upholding our rights,” he said.
He also highlighted the camaraderie among candidates during the election, stating that the contest was a “friendly election” where members supported one another.
“With the whole support of PBB, we are united in our purpose. Everybody supported each other, and that is how I managed to secure the highest number of votes,” said Jamit.
