SIBU: The Phase 1 Jalan Oya Expansion Works is 14.1 per cent behind schedule due to internal issues of the contractor, said Deputy Minister of Public Health, Housing and Local Government Michael Tiang Ming Tee.

He said, in a statement, yesterday that the progress of the work on the RM30 million project had slowed down recently and nothing was moving.

“This is mainly due to the contractor’s internal issues and nothing caused by external factors such as weather and whatsoever.

“Since then, the Land and Survey Department has issued reminders and notices to the contractor to demand the contractor to resume work,” he said.

Tiang said he got to understand the issue after a meeting with the Land and Survey Department superintendent and the consultant with Bukit Assek assemblyman Joseph Chieng.

“I decided to meet up with the Land and Survey Department to address this issue following public complaints recently on the progress of the expansion project,” he said.

The Pelawan assemblyman also said that the contractor had submitted their remedial and mitigation plan to catch up with the progress of the project and would resume their work on Sept 13.

“The resumed work will be on the Ground Treatment works (major work) and this major work is expected to be completed early next year.

“The consultant of the Land and Survey Department will continue to monitor and supervise the progress of the work to keep the schedule of the work project,” he said.
