KUALA LUMPUR: Johor Darul Ta’zim (JDT) striker, Muhammad Safawi Rasid said the roaring success of the Southern Tigers in lifting Malaysia Cup for the second time after 2017 was attributed to the strong team work of the squad.
The national striker who was crowned the player of the match at the Malaysia Cup final said the 3-0 thumping victory over Kedah at the National Stadium in Bukit Jalil would not have been possible without the support from his colleagues playing as one unit.
JDT defeated Kedah 2-0 in the 2017 edition at Shah Alam Stadium and broke their 26-year drought for the trophy.
“I want to thank the Tunku Mahkota of Johor (Tunku Mahkota Ismail Sultan Ibrahim) and all involved in the JDT camp.
“I really badly wanted to play in the final this year because I was not fielded in 2017 and my dream came true for it is not easy to be in the first eleven of JDT without the extra effort,” he told a media conference last night.
Elaborating further, Muhammad Safawi, 22, also praised the JDT management for acquiring several modern equipment to expedite recovery of players after a long period of competitive football. – Bernama
