KUCHING: A 23-year-old labourer has found out the hard way that it does not pay to be involved in drugs.
He was caught in possession of only RM10 worth of cannabis (ganja) weighing 0.83g but will face two charges of Section 6 and Section 15 (1)(a) of the Dangerous Drug Act 1952.
Sarawak Narcotic Investigation Crime Department head Superintendent Hasnir Abdul Hamid said the department’s fight against drugs all over the state had netted many users and pushers.
He said a labourer from Kp Central Tuei, Pusa was arrested in his hotel room in Bandar Sri Aman at 10.15pm on Sunday.
During the inspection, the raiding team found a package of transparent plastic containing dried leaves believed to be ganja.
The labourer was detained in Sri Aman police station lock up and tested positive for drugs. The man did not have any previous drug case.
Under Section 6 of the Dangerous Drugs Act 1952, the accused, if convicted, can be punished with a fine not exceeding RM20,000 or jail not exceeding five years or both.
